Surface Coloring Process of Aluminum Alloy Skirting

In modern interior design, skirting is a commonly used profile, usually including aluminum alloy, stainless steel, solid wood, PVC and other materials. Each material of skirting has a unique personality and applicable scene. Coloring Technology of Aluminum Alloy Skirting Board


The three common surface treatment processes for aluminum alloy skirting boards include anodizing, spraying, and battery coating.


1. Anodizing 


Anodizing is an electrochemical oxidation process, which is usually used for coloring the surface of aluminum alloy skirtings. Specifically, under specific electrolyte and process conditions, aluminum alloy materials form an oxide film on the surface of aluminum products through the action of an applied current.


This oxide film can not only improve the oxidation resistance of aluminum alloy skirtings but also increase its hardness and wear resistance.


Anodizing process


First, the aluminum alloy is cleaned and immersed in the electrolyte. Aluminum acts as the anode and an oxidation reaction is generated through the current to form a dense aluminum oxide film. The oxide film can be dyed to give it a rich decorative effect. Finally, it is sealed to enhance its corrosion resistance.


Advantages and disadvantages of the anodizing process

2. Spraying process


The spraying process is to spray powdered paint onto the surface of the aluminum alloy through an electrostatic spray gun, and then bake and cure it at high temperature to form a uniform coating.


Spraying operation process:


Before spraying, the surface of the aluminum alloy skirting board needs to be degreased and cleaned, and then the charged powder is adsorbed on the aluminum alloy surface using electrostatic spraying equipment. After high-temperature baking at about 200°C, the powder coating melts and solidifies into a uniform coating.

The cost is lower, but the coating may not perform as well as other processes in extreme environments.

During the spraying process, the construction environment needs to be kept clean to prevent dust and impurities from affecting the coating quality. In addition, after spraying, it is necessary to ensure complete curing to prevent the coating from falling off.


3. Electrophoretic coating process


The electrophoretic coating process uses the action of an electric field to evenly deposit the paint in an aqueous solution on the surface of the aluminum alloy skirting board to form a uniform protective coating.


Electrophoretic coating process operation flow:


After the aluminum alloy baseboard is surface treated, it is placed in the electrophoretic tank. The charged paint particles are evenly attached to the surface of the workpiece under the action of the electric field. The thickness of the electrophoretic coating is controllable and uniform, and then it is cured at high temperatures to form a high-performance coating.


Advantages and disadvantages of the electrophoretic coating process

The coating is uniform, no matter how complex the shape is, the paint can cover it evenly;

The color selection is limited, mainly neutral colors such as black, gray, and white;

The surface is smooth, with excellent corrosion resistance and protective performance;

The process is complex, the equipment requirements are high, and the production cost is relatively high.

Environmentally friendly, water-based paint is safer and does not produce volatile organic compounds (VOC).


Note:


The electrophoresis process requires precise control of current and time to ensure uniform coating thickness. The surface treatment of the workpiece must be thorough to avoid affecting the adhesion and quality of the coating.
